Black Cat PBY graces Bong Airport

The Lake Superior Squadron recently achieved a major milestone in its restoration of a PBY into a static display. The 104 foot, 5000 pound wing was reinstalled back onto the fuselage of the plane giving visitors an idea of how impressive this aircraft is.

This PBY is painted all black to honor the “Black Cat” squadrons of World War II. The Black Cats were brave aircrew who used their skills to fight the Japanese Fleet in the dark of the night. The plane is visible anytime near the airport terminal. For a closer view, please stop by when the hanger is open (Wednesday’s and Saturdays from 10-2:30.
